Community Malls are a Bangkok phenomena. Forget the words community as this has little of a community feel, and also forget the word mall. These ‘Community Malls are however wonderful places where residents and locals gather to meet and avoid the noise of some of Bangkok’s main thoroughfares.
These Community Malls are generally spread out areas of urban chic, low rise and spacious. There are shops, but they are generally not the place to go shopping, but they are the places to go to eat and relax. Many host small markets/farmers markets where small businesses can see their products directly to buyers.
Some of the smaller Community Malls are just bars, restaurants and cafes with token facilities to enable use of the name whilst others really do have a village atmosphere, except, generally no-one lives there!
However avoid the confusion and visit one of Bangkok’s Community Malls for relaxation and especially for their gastronomic offers. The kids can run free and generally the majority of the seating is outside.
Probably one of the best kept secrets in Bangkok!
